After years of raising weaned pigs to finish weights, we decided it is time to own our own production and begin farrowing on the farm. Durocs were, without hesitation, our breed of choice; they're a medium breed that perform well in pasture/forest operations. They have large litters and great mothering instincts. They produce lots of top-quality bacon and taste great in BBQ. With the right genetics, they look stunning in the show ring (they're our personal favorite in show in purebred classes). We spent two years finding the right genetics for our desired outcome, and in fall of 2023 we acquired our planned future breeders. Our NSR registered Duroc gilts were purchased from MBM Livestock, a top quality show-pig producer in Clear Brook, VA. They originate from the second litter of a young Green Bottles sow. In her first litter she produced only 3 barrows, all of which found their way to the backdrop in 2023, including the Reserve Purebred Barrow at VA State Fair, Grand Champion Market at Clarke, and Reserve Middleweight at Centre, PA. In her third litter, 3 barrows and 3 gilts were auctioned on ShowPig.com on March 20, 2024. We cannot wait to see how they perform in the show ring this year.

Our gilts exhibit fantastic body conformations worthy of the show ring (although they weren't raised for show), while at the same time maintaining production worthy growth rates. They show lots of promising potential as future breeders for both show and production markets. First litters are planned for January, 2025.
